ACADEMY DIRECTOR/FOUNDER
Originally from Peru, Carlos Di Laura has an impressive record of international coaching and tournament experience. Di Laura began competing internationally at age 13, and he won multiple Peruvian and South American championships, as well as tournament victories in Europe and North America. He was a member of the Pepperdine University team, where he was a four-time NCAA All-American, also winning an NCAA Division I title.
Coach Di Laura has competed at Wimbledon as well as the French and U.S. Open Tournaments. In addition, Di Laura attained an ATP TOP 40 ranking in singles and a TOP 20 ranking in doubles. He also represented Peru in the Los Angeles Olympic Games. He represented Peru in 13 years of Davis Cup play, and served as team captain for over four years.
His instructional experience includes coaching Peru’s Davis Cup team, as well as professional tour players, including Luis Horna, a top 30 ATP singles player.
Di Laura, who joined the St. Stephen’s Tennis Academy in 2003, holds certifications by USPTR, USTA, and the RPT. Along with current Texas A&M head tennis coach Steve Denton, he was a founder of the Denton Di Laura Tennis Academy. He is passionate about competitive tennis and committed to continuing to develop top national players.
Carlos Di Laura of Austin received the Tim Gullikson Touring Coach of the Year Award at the USPTA General Membership Meeting during the 2018 Tennis Teachers Conference at the Grand Hyatt New York in New York City. The Tim Gullikson Touring Coach of the Year Award is given to those coaches that currently work with a playing professional on the ATP World Tour, WTA, or a touring junior.
Under his direction, St. Stephens Tennis Academy has developed over 50 players to NCAA DI and top D3 programs. He worked with Nevin Arimilli for six years, who was ranked No.1 in Texas in the B16 and B18 divisions and has committed to playing at the University of Texas at Austin during the fall. He has also worked with Fernanda Contreras, who represents Vanderbilt University and is ranked in the top five in the nation, along with Jake Hansen who reached a high of No. 1 in the B16’s and B18’s nationwide. Along with coaching some of the top collegiate athletes, he has also worked with ATP World Tour players such as Luis Horna, Ivan Miranda, and Rodolfo Rake.
From Midland Texas, Brett grew up in Austin playing junior USTA tennis where he was ranked as high as top 150 in singles and top 50 in doubles nationally. Brett played for Westlake High School where he was the first mixed doubles state finalist.
He went on to play at St Edward’s University here in Austin where he played for an elite eight and sweet sixteen team and was ranked top 50 in singles and top 10 in doubles NCAA Division II. In 2009 Brett was the Heartland Conference Player of the Year. Brett began teaching after college for Lost Creek and Polo Club and eventually with EANES ISD and Travis Country. He continues to play competitively in adult USTA where he is currently ranked top 5 in Texas Men’s Open Doubles with Vince Casariego

Originally from Cordoba, Argentina, Francisco began his tennis journey at Texas Tech University, where he established himself as a formidable competitor. At Texas Tech, he earned a coveted position on the esteemed Big 12 First Team Academic twice, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to both academics and athletics.
Francisco earned dual distinctions as a member of the Big 12 First Team Academic after graduating with a degree in International Economics.
Furthermore, Francisco served as the captain of the Texas Tech men's tennis team, demonstrating his leadership abilities and commitment to the sport.
Francisco's tennis ability extends globally, as reflected in his rankings of 20 in the ITF world rankings and 1480 in the ATP rankings. His extensive international experience has honed his skills, making him a versatile athlete capable of competing at the highest levels. With such a wealth of knowledge and experience, Francisco stands ready to share invaluable insights with aspiring tennis enthusiasts worldwide.
Javier comes from Mexico, where he was a member of the Davis Cup team. He played professional tennis after receiving his BA. He was an ATP player from 1983-2000 with a career high ranking in singles of 298 in 1984, and in doubles of 504. Javier played 4 years in France for a Club in Toulouse with a French Ranking of -30. He has been tennis coach and Sport Director of the Tec de Monterrey. He has experience as an ATP Tour referee and has been a part of the Mexican Davis Cup Committee. He is a member of the International Lawn Tennis Club, the USPTA and the US Racket Stringing Association. He has a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Florida International University and has been working in the Organization Committee for ATP Challengers and ITF Junior Fed and Junior Davis Cup World Championships for the past 20 years.

Crisanto Ramirez is originally from South Texas and grew up playing across the state. A St. Stephen’s alumnus, class of 2005, he played junior USTA tennis and was ranked within the top 150 in the state. He graduated from Trinity University with a BS in Business Administration and a 34-10 and 50-12 win-loss record in doubles and singles respectively.
After college, Crisanto ran junior programs at the Cimarron Country Club in South Texas, and at Onion Creek and Twin Creeks here in Austin. In 2015, he was ranked #3 in Texas Men’s Open Singles and Doubles. Today, he is a Certified USPTA Elite Professional, has a 5.0 rating and currently plays on a 5.0 USTA team.
Crisanto has a passion for studying players' games as individuals, and crafting personalized drills and techniques for each of his students. His attention to detail and determination make him a top tier coach that brings great success to his students.

Born and raised in San Jose, California and an Archbishop Mitty HS Graduate, Maltby was the #15 prospect in the nation and #2 in California according to TennisRecruiting.com.
Maltby was part of the Texas Tech Women’s tennis team 2015-2019 where she was able to complete one of the most impressive careers in program history with a 5th overall win percentage of .757. During her four years, she went 84-37 in singles and 86-32 in doubles. In singles, she played mostly at the #1 and 2 positions. During her first three years at Texas Tech, the Lady Raiders reached the Elite 8 of the NCAA every year, including a Big XII Title in 2017, where Maltby clinched the win with her decisive singles match at the No. 2 Singles position.
Finding impressive results in her freshmen, sophomore and junior year, Maltby’s senior year campaign is considered one of the most successful in program history. By being the first player in program history to reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA in singles, Maltby was named an ITA All American in 2019. Maltby reached a career high No. 15 in the ITA Singles Rankings.
Some of her awards and honors in 2019 were: 2019 ITA Texas Region Senior of the Year, 2019 ITA Texas Most Improved Senior, 2019 Academic All Big XII First Team, 2019 All Big XII Singles First Team, 2019 Big XII Individual Champion at No. 1 Singles Position and was named the 2019 Big XII Player of the Year.

As a dynamic and passionate tennis coach, Nathan Rodriguez brings energy and inspiration to every training session. With a focus on both technical skill and mental resilience, Nathan encourages his players to push beyond their limits and reach new heights in their game. His coaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of perseverance and self-belief, instilling in his players the confidence they need to succeed on and off the court.

Eduardo De Leon grew up playing tennis in Mission, Texas. He traveled across the state to participate in junior USTA tournaments. As a St. Stephens Alumnus in the class of 2019, Eduardo reached 18 & Under Super Champ in junior tournaments. Eduardo then attended the University of Texas at Austin and joined as a coach in early 2022. His tennis journey has given him a unique perspective to offer our players. Eduardo has worked with players of all levels and is committed to the advancement and education of our tennis players.
Jason Haugen grew up in Austin and trained for 7 years at St. Stephen’s Tennis Academy. As a junior player he was ranked as high as number 2 in the Texas section and top 40 in the country. He won the Texas Slam in doubles twice.
Jason played collegiate tennis at Washington University in St. Louis, where he helped his team to four consecutive NCAA Elite 8 appearances including a 3rd place finish. Over his career he was awarded as a President's Council Scholar-Athlete, a 3 time ITA Scholar-Athlete, and an ITA All-American. He graduated in 2018 with a B.S. in Computer Science and a minor in Psychology.
As a coach, Jason has worked with players of all levels, from red ball to WTA professionals. Taking the lessons he learned from his father, long time Austin tennis coach Bob Haugen, Jason emphasizes strong fundamentals and footwork as the key to building long term success.
